Bernie Sanders Scores Super Tuesday Victory In Utah

The Associated Press called Utah in favor of Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., during the Democratic primary night dubbed “Super Tuesday.” Sanders added Utah to his list of victories including Colorado and Vermont.

Utah has 29 delegates available. Prior to calling Texas, California, and Maine, Sanders holds approximately 193 delegates, while former Vice President Joe Biden is ahead with 302 delegates.

Sanders won Utah in 2016, however, the state was a caucus state in 2016 and since changed to a primary state. Leading up to the Utah primary, Sanders campaigned in Salt Lake City drawing thousands of voters to his rally. According to Desert News, supporters waited for approximately two hours in the cold and muddy conditions to hear from their beloved “democratic socialist.”

The Sanders victory was relatively unsurprising given his 2016 success. While Sanders trails towards the end of the night on Super Tuesday, it is critical he win the delegate heavy states of California and Texas in order to safeguard his current frontrunner position.

Meanwhile, Republican Donald Trump handily won Utah with 87 percent of the early vote.
